Kurt Leimer was born on September 7, 1920, in Wiesbaden and passed away on November 20, 1974, in Vaduz. He was a German concert pianist, composer, and piano pedagogue. He became particularly well known for his Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, which he composed himself. This work was performed and recorded under the direction of Herbert von Karajan.

The non-profit Kurt Leimer Foundation actively and sustainably preserves and promotes the legacy of concert pianist, composer, and piano pedagogue Kurt Leimer. A central mission of the foundation is the support of young, talented pianists.

Starting in 2025, the music publishers HUG will publish and distribute the sheet music (full scores, piano reductions, orchestral parts) of Kurt Leimer’s four piano concertos in printed and physical form as rental material. The edition has been supervised by a team of musicologists under the project direction of Graziella Contratto, based on the original manuscripts and the film and audio recordings featuring Kurt Leimer.
